Listen, come at me, come at me hard if you want, but I see far too many people on Etsy and other platforms offering “psychic” readings, and they are simply opening a tarot deck that they bought off the internet, and pulling cards. Read that again please – anyone can open a deck of cards and pull cards out. And do you know what 80 percent of people will do? They will hear the card explained to them, and then immediately rack their brains, and MAKE that card make sense or make it “fit” for something they are going through. That is NOT how psychic readings are supposed to go.
Tarot cards are a wonderful visual when someone wants a reading. They can add “flair” to a reading, and make it less awkward than two people sitting across from each other, just looking into each others eyes, as intimate information is shared. I get the appeal. But I can tell you that tarot card readings are very frequently not connected to anything psychic.
A psychic connects with their spirit guides, your spirit guides, the energy, source…it’s different for each of course. What they are doing is inviting in Spirit to share with them (the reader) what would be most useful for you to know, and this is done in a variety of ways. Visuals, scents, thoughts, conversations, and the list goes on. The key is the psychic connecting first with the Universe/Source/Spirit, and setting the intention that useful, accurate, and loving information is shared for the clients highest and best good.
If it is not in the client’s best information to receive information at this time, the psychic may not get much around the situation. However, a seasoned psychic will know to keep pushing into the energy and to bring something forward that is in fact useful or that can help to expound on the topic or situation from another angle.
Having a tarot deck does not make someone a psychic. It means they have a deck of cards. Pulling cards without any psychic preparation or connection is simply…pulling cards and then having the client do the heavy lifting, through their own interpretation and the generic interpretation of the card puller.
Do I know some legit readers who use tarot? I do. And they have their own process of connecting with Spirit and then using the cards to gently help illustrate the story or offer them clarity so they get to the heart of the message.
Please do not take a $4 card pull off Etsy or Instagram as legit messages from your spirit guides. If a message is useful or uplifting to you – that’s awesome. You are most definitely wired to want to feel good. However, please do not base life decisions off of cards in a deck. Make sure you are dealing with a seasoned and well-vetted psychic reader; the reader may or may not pull a card or two during the course of your reading. Understand that the cards don’t “tell the story,” the cards are meant to enhance and confirm what your reader is telling you.
Readers should not be relying on a tarot card as “guidance” or an “answer” from Spirit – the reader should be delivering information to you, and if they pull a card, it should be for further clarification of what they are already discussing with you.
My final plea, what I’m encouraging you to do…before you consider getting a reading from a psychic: Ask what their process is. A legitimate psychic reader will have no problem explaining their process to you. If they rely on tarot cards, ask them what their process for connecting with Spirit is — if this ruffles their feathers, or they say something generic, keep it moving and consider a psychic who doesn’t rely on tools, but relies on their connection to Spirit.
